Following my degree in 2015 at Leeds University in Contemporary Art and Design, I focused mainly on creating functional sculpture and furniture, using recycled and found objects. I had a studio at East Street Arts, where I worked collaboratively, and first got involved in ceramics.

After this I moved to London and worked in visual merchandising specialising in home interiors and styling. However, this did not fulfil my desire to create, so I took a leap of faith in 2019 and launched Ko ceramics. I am largely self-taught, but initially trained under the guidance of the wonderful Anglian potter, Peter Walkem to whom I am extremely grateful.

The name Ko ceramics simply comes from my love of all thing’s cows, Ko is Swedish for cow. Although I have no Swedish heritage, I liked the name and it just seems to work.

Most of my inspiration comes from minimal and simplistic functional forms. I have always been fascinated by organic curves vs man made lines and structures, which can influence the viewer’s perception of an object. My pieces are created with these ideals in mind.

The work is functional, tactile and made to be used and loved. It is thrown on a wheel or hand built, using flecked and sometimes black stoneware clay, with complementary natural glaze tones. Clay and glazes can sometimes be unpredictable, which is why we like to work with these qualities, instead of seeing them as an imperfection.

We make kitchen and tableware, household decorative objects and one-off sculptural pieces. Our current collection is meant to be organic ‘mix and match’ and not a perfect set, ideally items can be added over time, eventually creating a unique collection.

Work once purchased will be shipped within 2-3 working days, First Class tracked and signed for.

Currently only shipping in the UK.

Extensive research has gone into the careful packaging of each parcel, nearly all the wrapping is either biodegradable (cellulose peanuts) or recyclable, including all my notecards and business cards.

If any bubble wrap has been used in your delivery, these have all be reused from packaging we have received, so please if you can try and reuse this yourself.

If you are interested in receiving a larger quantity of a single item, or any commission work please contact us directly.

All the clays and glazes are food safe unless stated. Although our ceramics are dishwasher safe it is advised to hand-wash all items to prolong their life.

We have been careful to make sure we measure and describe each item correctly so please make sure you read all information before making a purchase .Each piece is either individually or in very small batches so the sizes may differ slightly from those written, but we try to make them as accurate as possible. No two items will ever be exactly the same. If you are not completely satisfied with your item, please do get in touch.

Ko ceramics do not currently accept returns, but if your item has been damaged in transport, we will refund your money.
